American Family History Immigration Center <www.ellisislandrecords.org>

·   Details on more than 22 million immigrants, passengers and crew members who came through Ellis Island and the Port of New York between 1892 and 1924. Also, US citizens returning home from travel abroad.

·   Once you find your ancestors on a passenger list, you can view an image of the actual manifest and order a framed copy. You can also purchase a picture of the ship and create an electronic family history scrapbook.

·   One-Step Web Pages by Stephen P. Morse <www.stevemorse.org> has special search forms to help you find a Jewish passenger and to search by town of origin or ethnicity.

 Ancestry.com’s U.S. Immigration Collection <www.ancestry.com>

Genealogy.com’s International and Passenger Records <www.genealogy.com>

·   Passengers leaving Hamburg , Germany , a key port of departure for European immigrants to North America .

·   Lists for 1890 to 1908 are complete. Eventually this site will list more than five million names from 1850 to 1934.

Ireland

Famine Irish Data Files <www.archives.gov/aad>

·   604,596 persons who arrived in the United States , 1846-1851, and the ships on which they arrived.

·   About 70% list their native country as Ireland . Others came from Canada , Brazil , Saint Croix , Russia , Morocco , the United States and countries throughout Europe .

Tip: To find the place of origin of an immigrant ancestor with an uncommon last name, try to determine where the name predominates. You might search the International Genealogical Index (IGI) <www.familysearch.org> and phone directories for the last name, if it’s rare. Infobel <infobel.com> have links to international phone directories.
