BIOGRAPHY: Louise (Welles) Murray, A HISTORY OF OLD TIOGA POINT AND EARLY ATHENS, PENNSYLVANIA; 1795-1908; Athens, PA, 1908; pp 484-485; Library of Congress, Call No F159 A9M9 (Rick Crume's file #M 117, M 252) NOTE: "In 1822 there came to town some Welshmen, who were long actively connected with the making of Athens. William Parry was one, and his friend and acquaintance, Thomas R. Davies, the other. Probably they came to Philadelphia with a party of Welsh people. At any rate Mr. Parry married there in 1822, Jannet Jones, a wealthy Welsh girl of good family. One of her sisters settled also in Athens, and it was not long before Mother Jones drove up from Philadelphia, and purchased a large plot of land for the daughters, covering the ground west of Main Street, now occupied by Universalist, Baptist and old Catholic Churches, later known as the Herrick plot."

Jones, spoke of his 'Uncle John' as living in the United States. But whether Evan Jones's mother and a brother preceded or followed him to the United States is not known." The book says that Evan Jones (1788-1872) visited his "aged, sick mother" in Philadelphia in 1846, in July or Aug 1852 and in Feb 1859. An examination of his letters on microfilm from the American Baptist Historical Society shows that Evan mentioned his mother's name and address in an 1846 letter. Other letters show that he visited Philadelphia in 1852 and 1859, but on these dates he does not actually mention his mother or other relatives.
