The Descendants of Samuel Jones

This report outlines my information on the descendants of Samuel JONES (1765-1805) of Talgarth and Llanigon, Breconshire, Wales, and his wife Ann/Anna POWELL (1767-1852) of Glasbury and Llanigon, Breconshire, Wales, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Surnames include BELLINGHAM, CLAPP, FRITCHER, FUREY, GRUBB, HINDS, HOPPER, KIMMAL, MCGIFFIN, MORGAN, PARRY, PEARSON, PIERSON, RUGGLES, RULE, SHEPPARD, SMITH, WARREN and WHITLOCK. Descendants lived in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and elsewhere.

In 1999, I wrote a report on Ann (Powell) Jones and her descendants.

In 2001, I wrote a report on Samuel and Ann (Powell) Jones and their descendants. It appeared in Cronicl, issue 52, the journal of the Powys (Wales) Family History Society, but without the source citations.

Samuel and Ann Jones's son-in-law, William Parry, was a friend of Thomas Rogers Davies who immigrated on the ship Meridian or Meriden in 1819. William Parry and the Jones and Morgan families all may have come on the same ship. An article in The Athens Gleaner newspaper reporting on Thomas Rogers Davies' fiftieth wedding anniversary tells about his early life in Wales and his voyage to America.

See Tom Grubb's family Web site for reports on the descendants of Samuel Jones Parry (1825-1912) and a terrific collection of family photos.
