Hooper; 1750-1846; Revolutionary War, served from Massachusetts; ; FHL film 971,323 (Rick Crume's file #H 520, H 749); NOTE: On 24 Sept. 1834 Zalmon A. Hooper, a seventy-year old resident of Dryden, Tompkins Co., NY, appeared in the Court of Common Pleas for Tompkins County to apply for a pension. He stated that he enlisted in the US army at Bridgewater, MA, on 1 May 1780 for a three-year term under Capt. Etron in Col. Oliver Orr's Regiment. After four months Hooper became ill and returned home on a furlough. After eight weeks he recovered and was transferred to the U.S. Cannon and Ball Foundry at Bridgewater, where he served until 1 May 1783 when his term expired. He received a written discharge from Joseph [Oldmot?], the master of the foundry. About forty years ago Zalmon A. Hooper moved from Massachusetts to the State of Delaware. He has lived in the State of New York for twenty-seven years. [Stutely Carr?], a clergyman, and John Bettis, both of Dryden, witnessed on his behalf. The pension application was rejected on the grounds that the alleged officers could not be verified and service in the foundry was not construed as military duty. In a letter dated 9 Aug. 1915, a congressman from Nebraska wrote to the Pension Department on behalf of a constituent who wanted information on one of her ancestors: Zalmunna Hooper, Jr., born at Plymouth, Mass., Sept. 2, 1750; died at Fleming, N.Y., Feb. 26, 1846.
