Edmund "served His Majesty as an ensign in the old French War", which
could refer to the campaigns of 1744-48 or 1754-63."
p. 2: Edmund may have had a brother John who owned and commanded a vessel,
the "Williams" which sailed between NJ and NY ports and Halifax and
Saint John during and after the American Revolution.
p. 3: Edmund purchased 200 acres in Gagetown, NB. Deed dated 12 Jul 1769,
Saint John Registry Office, Book B1, pp. 15-16. William Spry of
Halifax, NS was the grantor and Edmund Price of Grimross (now called
Gagetown), the grantee.
p. 3: "Edmund Price of Gagetown, an early miner, sold 9 chaldrons of coal
in 1775 to Simonds, Hazen and White, the pioneer trading firm on the
St. John River."
p. 4: Edmund was among 125 people who gathered at Maugerville on 14 May
1776 and signed a resolution supporting the rebel cause. In the fall
of 1776 Edmund was part of a small rebel force which failed in its
efforts to capture Fort Cumberland, near Sackville. In May 1777 the
British offered to forgive the residents along the river and to
protect them from their enemies, and for them the revolt was over.
p. 6: Edmund's will was executed 11 Jun 1785 and recorded in probate 4 Jul
1786 (Hampton Reg. Office, Libra A1, p. 7) so he died sometime
between these dates.

BIRTH-IMMIGRATION-MARRIAGE-LAND-BIOGRAPHY: E-mail from Marke Slipp, Edmonton, Alberta, to Rick Crume, Glyndon, MN; 1746-1783; dtd 11 Feb 1994 & 18 Apr 1994; ; (Rick Crume's file #P 538, P 539, P 547); NOTE: According to the family bible record of George L Slipp (b 1819) (in poss of John J Johnston, Prince Albert, Sask), Leonard Slipp was born in Amsterdam, Holland, in 1746. He signed articles with a sea captain to serve three years on the condition that at the end of that time he would be landed in New York. After 2 1/2 years Slipp was allowed to have his indenture transferred to a potash maker in New York and worked in that trade for six months. The year was 1767. In 1769 Slipp started a tavern and made a lot of money in a short period. He married Elizabeth (Katherine) Ryson in 1772. At the time of the American Revolution, Slipp remained loyal to the British Empire and was driven out of the US. He came to Saint John, NB in 1783 and later Long Island, NB where he bought 1/2 of lot #20 where he established a tavern at Blizzards.

The petition urged the government to accept the current survey of lots in the New Canaan settlement and to issue grants to the settlers. The New Canaan lots were crossed by the Canaan River and stretched from Salisbury to Coles Island in the counties of Westmorland, Kings and Queens. The lots averaged about 300 acres and ran north and south. On 2 Oct 1809 Grant #510 conveyed lots 9 and 10 as surveyed to Gideon Corey.

He was twice married. His first wife, by whom he had one son, was a Miss Horton. His second wife was a Miss Ripley, and had twelve children, seven daughters and five sons.
"Mr. Pugsley had a brother John, who was a halfpay officer in the British army. This brother lived a short time at Fort Lawrence, and had one son named Daniel. John Pugsley and his wife left this son with friends in Petitcodiac, and returned either to the States or to Great Britain. They were not heard from afterward. The Pugsleys of King's County and St. John are descendants of this Daniel. Those in Cumberland are descended from David. . . ."

"Elizabeth HAMPSON MC CREADY - Widow of William MC CREADY, who died of
wounds in the Battle of White Plains (1776). She and her three sons,
William, Caleb and John, settled along the Hammond River, after her
marriage in Saint John to Andrew SHERWOOD. William and his wife, Isabella
FORD, moved to Upper Settlement, where eight daughters and four sons were
born.
