NAME: Haynes or Haines.

BIRTH-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN: Charles Henry Preston, DESCENDANTS OF ROGER PRESTON OF IPSWICH AND SALEM VILLAGE; 1635-1931; Salem, Massachusetts, The Essex Institute, 1931; pp 35-36; Library of Congress, Call No CS71 P94 1931 (Rick Crume's file #C 88 G).

MARRIAGE-CHILDREN: Savage, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF NEW ENGLAND; ; Baltimore, Genealogical Publ Co, 1969, vol II; pp 389-390; Red River Valley Genealogical Society, Fargo, ND, Call No 974 S2 (Rick Crume's file #C 75); NOTE: Haynes/Haines, Jonathan, Newbury, said to son of Jonathan of the same (but very little reliance is due to that Jonathan, as the story is so uncertain), married 1 Jan 1674, Mary Moulton, who soon died and he married 30 Dec 1674, Sarah Moulton, both daughters of William, as I presume, though the family genealogy gives this designation only to the latter, had Mary, born 14 Nov 1675, died soon; Mary, again, 2 Oct 1677, who married 7 Jan 1706, John Preston; Thomas, 14 May 1680; Sarah, who married William Corbett; Jonathan, 3 Sept 1684, who became a Canadian farmer, having been taken at 12 years of age, with his father, sister Mary, and brothers Thomas and Joseph, 15 Aug 1696, by the Indians; removed to Haverhill, there had Margaret, 3 Mar 1687; Joseph, 4 Aug 1689; Ruth, 10 Feb 1692; and Elizabeth 22 Mar 1697; was killed by the Indians 22 Feb following. In Genealogical Register IX 349 he is favored with three more daughters all without dates either of birth or marriage who are given in marriage to men of Conn. Now that alone would be a very improbable circumstance, yet capable of obtaining support from the statement, that two others removed to that province with their husbands. Less likely is the fond tradition of his having lived in Newbury forty years a full grown man, before he married and still less of his being brother of Gov. Haynes. Indeed the whole story of the family abounds in wonders as given by Guy C. Haines of East Boston.
