He and his wife, Elizabeth Brooks, may have had 3 children: Daniel, who inherited the Bull Run Farm; Philip I.; and Elizabeth, who married William Forman. Daniel and Elizabeth are said to have had a large family.

It is thought that he returned to Scotland to settle an old estate (probably lost at sea). He was never heard from. Years later the Battle of Bull Run was fought near his homestead. He married Elizabeth Brooks and had a large family. He left his son, Philip Crume, who with his sons, lived in Shenandoah Co., VA 1783-1785 (according to VA 1790 census)."
