in England 1625, freeman 1654, was representative for Simsbury 1671 and
1675, married 1656, Joanna COOK, who died Apr 1657, and he married next,
17 Oct 1661, Martha, sister of the first William PITKIN, had, says
PARSONS, in Genealogical Register V.464, five sons and five daughters, but
the family genealogy I. 253, names only four daughters, Elizabeth, born 19
Aug 1662, who married 8 Dec 1680, Daniel COOLEY of Springfield, and died
30 Jan 1707; Martha, 17 May 1664, married 1686, Thomas ALLYN, and died 7
Sep 1687; Simon, 24 Jun 1666; Joanna, 30 Jun 1668, who married 26 Sep 1690,
John COLTON; Henry, 20 May 1670; Christopher, 4 Jul 1672, died before 21
years, probably unmarried; Mary, 1674, died at 2 years; William, 6 Nov
1676; and Roger, 4, if better authority be not for 28 Jan 1679. He died 11
Sep 1687, and in Mar following, to elude the tyranny of ANDROS, who ordered
all administration in New England on deceased person's estate to be taken
at Boston, the eldest son made partition between mother and children. How
his minor four brothers and one sister were bound by this arrangement Sir
Edmund had not time to inquire. The widow married Hon. Daniel CLARK,
outlived him, and died 13 Oct 1719.

BLISS, Nathaniel, Springfield 1645, brother of the preceding, born in
England, removed from Hartford soon after death of his father and married
20 Nov 1646, Catharine, Daughter of deacon Samuel CHAPIN, had Samuel, born
7 Nov 1647, who lived to 19 Jun 1749; Margaret, 12 Nov 1649, who married
2 May 1672, Nathaniel FOOTE, and died Apr 1745; Mary, 23 Sep 1651; and
Nathaniel, 27 Mar 1653, who died 23 Dec 1736. Notwithstanding this
tendency to long life in the children, the father was buried 18 Nov 1654.
His widow married 31 Jul following Thomas GILBERT, by him had four children
and married 28 Dec 1664, Samuel MARSHFIELD, and had four more, so as to
count one dozen children. On 31 Dec 1678, or the next day, Samuel, senior,
Samuel, junior, and Samuel tertiary, took oath of allegiance being over 16
years old, and enrolled in the military at Springfield. They were a son of
Nathaniel, a son of Lawrence, and their uncle.

HILDRETH, Richard, Cambridge, freeman 10 May 1643, had wife Sarah, who
died 15 Jun 1644; by wife Elizabeth who died at Malden 3 Aug 1693, aged
68, had Elizabeth 21 Sep 1646; and Sarah, 8 Aug 1648. He was sergeant, one
of the grantees of Chelmsford, 1653, there had Joseph, 16 Apr 1658; Persis,
8 Feb 1660; Thomas, 1 Feb 1662; Isaac, Jul 1663; beside Abigail, who
married Moses PARKER of the same. The father died at Chelmsford, 1688, aged
83, it is read on the gravestone by one, though in Genealogical Register
III 142, his year of birth is marked 1612, more probable, and his
descendants long prevail there. Six of the name had, in 1834, been
graduated at Harvard.

HYDE, Jonathan, Cambridge, lived in that part called New Cambridge or
Cambridge village, now Newton, freeman 1663, by wife, Mary, daughter of
William FRENCH of Billerica, had Jonathan, born 1 Apr 1651, died soon;
Samuel, and Joshua, twins 23 May 1653; Jonathan, again, 1 Apr 1655; John,
6 Apr 1656; Abraham, 2 Mar 1658; Elizabeth, 4 Sep 1659; of whom several
died before baptism; William, baptized 16 Nov 1662; Eleazer, 3 July 1664;
Daniel, 1665; and Ichabod, born 22 Sep 1668; and she died in her 39th
year at birth of her twelfth (or as Jackson counts him, thirteenth) child,
Joseph, 27 May 1672. He married 11 Nov 1673, Mary, daughter of John REDIAT
of Marlborough, had Hannah, 14 Oct 1677, died at two years; Sarah, 1 Apr
1679; Ruth, 3 Oct 1682, died soon; Isaac, 31 Oct 1685; Jacob, 9 Apr 1687;
Lydia, 1 Mar 1689; and Ann, 28 Aug 1692. He was selectman 1691, outlived
the second wife more than three years and died 5 Oct 1711, 85 years old.
To eleven children he gave estate by deed. Sarah married John OSLAND; and
Ann married Richard BARNES of Marlborough.
