Directions:  The Thomas Cooper Library is located on Greene Street at Sumter Street and the South Caroliniana Library is located on the Horsehow, 910 Sumter Street at College Street. The university also has a parking garage at the corner of Pendleton and Pickens Streets (about two blocks east of the library) that has metered visitor spaces. Collection Scope:  South Carolina history and genealogy, including books, S.C. newspapers, maps and visual materials.

Special Collections:  Unpublished manuscript collections.

Reference Services:  The library staff can do only very limited research in response to phone, fax or e-mail requests. For example, they can check an indexed book or collection for a specific name. The library can supply a list of local researchers available for more detailed research.

Copies:  Self-service copies in the Thomas Cooper Library are 10 cents per page from a book. All copying in the South Caroliniana Library is done by staff. They will make photocopies from less fragile materials and microfilm for 35 to 50 cents per page. Mailing costs will vary with the size of the order. The library can supply order forms with prices for duplicate microfilms and photographs.

Circulation:   The South Caroliniana Library is closed stack; each title must be requested with a call slip for use within the library. Materials in the South Caroliniana Library do not circulate beyond the reading room.

Interlibrary Loan:  The South Caroliniana Library is no longer able to provide interlibrary loans.
