Collection Scope:
Materials about the history of South Dakota and the
surrounding northern plains region. Also many published resources for New
England genealogy.
Special Collections:
Family histories, memoirs, city and county histories, church
histories, county atlases, city directories, Bureau of Indian Affairs
records for each reservation, maps and cemetery indexes.

Reference Services:
The staff will respond to specific research questions
submitted by phone, mail, fax or e-mail. A search for one name in one
newspaper, book, state census or naturalization record costs $10.60. A
search of multiple records costs $21.20 per hour and includes up to ten
photocopies or two microfilm copies.

Circulation:
Library materials must be used on site.
Interlibrary Loan:
Newspapers, Bureau of Indian Affairs records, WPA cemetery
records, state and federal census records, and county atlases on microfilm
may be borrowed through interlibrary loan. Call the Archives, (605)
773-3804, to obtain correct titles, dates and reel numbers and give this
information to your local librarian, along with prepayment of $8.48 per
reel. You may borrow up to four reels at a time and keep them for 30 days.
