Collection Scope: Extensive coverage of genealogy and local history of Connecticut and the rest of New England.

Special Collections: Connecticut town vital records to about 1900.

Library Catalog: The State Library's catalog can be accessed through the State Library home Page, http://www.cslib.org or through CONSULS, the catalog of Connecticut State University and the State Library at http://csulib.ctstateu.edu. To limit your searching to State Library holdings, choose the last option, "Change Library Catalog" on the first menu screen. Then choose "Search the State Library Only". The catalog may also be searched by telnet: telnet://149.152.10.1.

Reference Services: A search for one name in seven statewide indexes will be conducted in response to written requests only. The fee is $5 for Connecticut residents and $15 for non-residents. See http://www.cslib.org/indexsch.htm for more details and a description of the indexes. A Vital Records Search Request form is available by mail or telephone or on the Web site.

Guides: The State Library can provide flyers describing the library's collections and facilities and reference services provided by mail or e-mail. Copies: Copies are 15 cents per page using cash (or 10 cents using vendacards) self-service or 25 cents per page by the staff. Copies from microfilm are 25 cents per page. The staff does not make change.

Circulation: Genealogies and local histories may not be checked out of the library, unless an extra copy is available. See the library's circulation policy at www.cslib.org/borrow.htm.

Interlibrary Loan: Microfilmed newspapers are available through interlibrary loan. If available, extra copies of genealogies and local histories may be lent to other libraries. See the library's interlibrary loan policy at www.cslib.org/ill.htm.
