"He served in the Revolution, in Capt. Martin Bowman's Company, Lancaster Militia. (See naturalization record, Sept. 1765... He had 12 children, of whom Jacob III, m. Catharina Hassler, both of Cocalico Twp., on Oct. 28, 1805, at Schwarzwald Church near Oley. Int[erred] Bacher Cemetery. His whole family is said to have migrated to Ohio in 1805." Jacob Wiest, Jr., was born in Germany and buried in Bacher Cemetery, north of Lancaster, Ohio.

Martin Bowman's Company of the Pennsylvania Militia. He died at Lancaster, PA. (Sources: Pennsylvania Archives, 5th Series, vol. VII, pp. 502, 1120. Tombstone records and bible.) Jacob had a son Christian (1753-1815).

5Deed of sale, Michael Baughman to Jacob Weist, dtd. 15 Nov. 1763, Lancaster Co., PA, deed bk. P, pp. 12-15, Family History Library, Salt Lake City, UT, FHL film 21,386 (Rick Crume's file #C 1131). Michael Baughman, yeoman, and his wife Catherina, of Lebanon Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. 193 1/2 acres in Cocalico Twp. adjacent to lands of Joseph Flickinger and Peter Bricker and lands formerly of Hans Zimmerman. The land was part of teh estate of Hans Zimmerman which Thomas Smith Esq. late High Sheriff of Lancaster Co. by deed dated 1 May 1755 conveyed to Michael Baughman, father of said Michael Baughman. Michael Baughman Sr. died intestate and the land was conveyed to Michael Baughman Jr. (Lancaster Co., PA, Orphan's Court, the first Tues. in Dec. 1762).

"Jacob Weist bought a tract of about 200 acres in 1763 from Christian Baughman, situated in the northern part of the township [Cocalico]. Dr. Samuel Weist, son of Jacob, became the first physician in West Cocalico." It goes on to say that the Kegerise family also lived in the Cocalicos.

Jacob Wiest and his son Christian Wiest, yeomen of Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. The first tract contains 193 1/2 acres in Cocalico Twp. adjacent to lands of Joseph Flikkinger and Peter Bricker, and land formerly of Hans Zimmerman. The second tract contains ten acres adjoining other lands of said Jacob Wiest and of Paul Gehr. The third tract contains 1 3/4 acres and adjoins lands of said Jacob Wiest, Paul Gehr and Peter Bricker. Michael Baughman and his wife Catharina of Lebanon Twp. had granted the three tracts of land to Jacob Wiest, the first tract by a deed dated 15 Nov. 1763 (Lancaster Co., PA deed bk. P, p. 12) and the other tracts by a deed dated 7 Oct. 1769.
