A letter from the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania says, "The muster in roll and records on file in this office show that Jonathan Hall was enrolled as a private in Company G 211th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on the Third day of September 1864 and was mustered in to the service of the United States as such for the period of one year from the Fifth day of September 1864 and that he was 18 years of age... Bates History Pa. Vols. states Regiment was mustered out of service June 2, 1865 at Alexandria, Va. Enrolled and Mustered in at Waterford, Pa."
