Hall lived at Cuba, Allegany Co., NY for 3 or 4 years, in Warren, Warren Co., PA for 6 months, at Emporium, Cameron Co., PA for 6 months or 1 year, at Olean, Cattaraugus Co,. NY for 7 years and at other places in Pennsylvania and New York. Charles L. Syks (Sikes), born in about 1849, wrote an affidavit dated 12 Dec. 1893 for Henry J. Hall.
Henry says he was previously married to Caroline Hall, but that marriage was dissolved by a bill of separation at Shinglehouse, [Potter Co.,] Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Ann MacDougal in 1894 at Clarksville, [Allegany Co.,] New York.

A letter from the Adjutant General of Pennsylvania says, "The muster in roll and records on file in this office show that Jonathan Hall was enrolled as a private in Company G 211th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on the Third day of September 1864 and was mustered in to the service of the United States as such for the period of one year from the Fifth day of September 1864 and that he was 18 years of age... Bates History Pa. Vols. states Regiment was mustered out of service June 2, 1865 at Alexandria, Va. Enrolled and Mustered in at Waterford, Pa."
On 14 Dec. 1912, Jonathan Hall, a resident of Kent County, Michigan, attested that he served as a private in the Union Army. Enlisted 18 Sept. 1864 at Warren, Pennsylvania, as a private in Company G, 211th Pa. Infantry under Oriel H. David Peck Frank [?]. Residence at date of enlistment: Warren, Pennsylvania. Honorably discharged 22 June 1865 at Washington, D.C.
